GSM, GPRS, 3G and Blackberry
Mobile telecommunications are now a vital part of inshore communications allowing Captain and crew to work effectively and owners and guests to stay in touch with family and friends.
GSM is the mainstay of onshore maritime telephony and GPRS has proven to be a superb tool for reliable and cost effective data communication. We can supply a wide range of GSM and GPRS services and hardware depending on where the service will be used and the application required. More recently, combined 3G/GPRS wireless routers have become available and allow an entire onboard network to communicate via high speed connections of up to 384 kbps without the expense of using a satellite connection.
Wireless Internet Access
Many marinas around the world now offer wireless internet access. You can pay per day, weekly or monthly and are then able to securely connect to the chosen marina WiFi. Depending on the service provider, you can access up to a 2Mbps connection and generally unlimited data. OceanWeb can advise, supply and install suitable WIFI antennas and boosters plus integrate the WiFi with your existing IT system. We can also install combined WiFi/GPRS/3G routers which provide a compact solution for both GSM and WiFi connectivity.
GSM Booster systems
Areas such as the crew mess, engine room and guest cabins ofter suffer from very poor mobile phone reception. We have supplied and installed a number of GSM booster systems which can boost reception to 4/5 bars. These boosters can be dual, tri or quad band and can boost both GSM and 3G data signals. Decent cabling is essential - we tend to always use LMR-400. Please contact us if you require any further information.
